See Adam Port's Progress on The Inaugural Offering in His Exclusive “Legendary Icons Series" Debuting in the Legendary November 28–29 Auction.

One month ago, we announced the thrilling new project of photorealist art sensation Adam Port, whose "Legendary Icons Series" will showcase the single most iconic images of history's greatest sports legends. Now we are pleased to officially unveil Port's flagship piece for our November auction, "The Luckiest Man," which captures Lou Gehrig mustering the courage to deliver the most inspiring, heartrending words ever uttered in the annals of sport.

"Fans," Gehrig began, his quavering voice echoing throughout Yankee Stadium, "for the past two weeks you have been reading about the bad break I got. Yet today I consider myself the luckiest man on the face of the earth."

Using his perfected technique of acrylic paint and colored pencil, Port is currently in the home stretch of recreating this pinnacle moment in the Iron Horse's remarkable life. As seen here, the spellbinding, startlingly life-like artwork has come quite a long way in the past four weeks.

" In the first stage of my artistic process, I use graphite pencils to create the under-drawing," Port explains. "I then begin to paint over that with acrylics. Next, I use various gray-toned colored pencils to render a little more and pull out the highlights. So, I end up going from light to dark and eventually going from dark to light. The last and most rewarding stage comes at the end when I polish up the painting by putting in all the final details."

Over the next year, Adam Port's "Legendary Icons Series" will honor those immortal sports trailblazers who transcend time and terrain, who reign supreme for soaring to heights never dreamed possible and then never surpassed. The project will culminate at Legendary's prestigious August 2013 Live Auction Event, held in Chicago during the week of the 33rd Annual National Sports Collectors Convention.
