Created through a unique arrangement between American Greetings and Mattel, The Popples was a cartoon show that aired from 1985 to 1987, featuring some cute, fuzzy creatures who could roll their entire bodies into their stomach pouch, turning themselves into a living ball. (The 'pop' sound that they made when rolling back out was the source for their name.) In 1986, Colorforms produced two standard game versions that were based on the property, a small set and their larger "Deluxe" set. Production materials and the very colorful original artworks for both sets are included here. Contents for the small game (set #691): original painted cover art (W/C - 10" x 11") and platform art (mixed media - 12-1/2" x 8"); handpainted cover panel mockup (W/C - done to actual production size); and lam. prf.'s for the cover (two, one w/ed. not.) and the platform (two, one w/ed. not.). Contents for the Deluxe game (set #2375): original painted platform art (W/C - 15" x 12"); original vinyl art (inks); hand-painted set-up for the vinyl; mech.'s for the cover and an ad piece; separate, full-color mech. for cover (w/hand-painted color detailing additions - central art image came from a photo transparency supplied by the toy company); lam. prf. for cover (w/tis. ov. for ed. not.); small color photo transparencies of the art for the cover and bklt. cover (Bklt. image was not used.); and Mint sample games of both sizes.
