Battlestar Galactica must have been a profitable license for Colorforms, for they not only produced large and small versions of their standard product (set #'s 638 and 2359, respectively), but they also produced a set for their new "Rub 'n Play" line (set #964A). This new line provided glossy paper doll standups of the show's main characters. Each figure was missing half of its image, the half that the child could complete by rubbing on the supplied transfers. While much of the standard sets' art is provided by photographically reproduced paintings from the show's publicity department, the Rub 'n Play set includes no less than 13 gouache paintings of the characters! Each separate painting occupies at least two-thirds of its board's 10" x 13" area, and they are all outstanding. Other included production pieces for set #964A: original background art of a starry night sky (used as backdrop for cover's image, white and gray gouache on 10-1/2" x 12" board); three separate mech.'s for the cover, the punch-out figures, and the "Magic Transfer" sheet; and almost 100 different proofs of various items and designs, representing various production stages (this includes 47 different color photo transparencies of the child model used for the cover, and prog.'s and final proofs of the cover and some components). The included production pieces for set #2359 (large): original vinyl art (ink) and platform art (two different 17" x 13-1/2" W/C paintings); platform concept art with a separate mockup and a production mech.; full cover mech.; 8" x 10" color photo transparency of art used for cover; mech. for bklt. with character images overlay; production stats of bklt. and platform; 15 prog.'s that include the cover and the bklt. (plus an additional final); 15 prog.'s of the platform (plus two additional finals); and a Mint game in a VG/EX box. The included production pieces for set #638 (small): original platform painting (gouache - 19" x 12-1/2"); vinyl art (ink); cover's border art (airbrush - 9" x 14-1/2") and two sidepanel artworks (14-1/2" x 1" and 9" x 1"); platform concept art (W/C - 12" x 7-1/2"); original starry sky background bklt. cover art (gouache - 4-1/2" x 3-1/4"); mech.'s for cover (with hand-colored tis. ov.), platform, and bklt. (with character drawings applied to pl. ov., topped by hand-colored tis. ov.); and an impressive, high quality print of the cover painting to be used on the cover (12-1/2" x 16-3/4" and no text).
