Among the most beautiful and underappreciated pieces of memorabilia, S81 Turkish Trophies Large Silk Premiums offer the lush portraits of the T3 Turkey Red Cabinets and L1 Leather Tobacco Premium series' in a more luxurious and condition-sensitive format. Twenty-five subjects (#'s 86-110) were depicted in this series, including some of the top players of the day; Grover Alexander, Ty Cobb, Walter Johnson, Nap Lajoie and Tris Speaker to name a few.

This 6-7/8" x 8-1/2" satin showpiece featuring Ty Cobb (#102 in its series) is a grandly impressive relic that was available only through the mail during its brief period of original distribution in exchange for Helmar's "Turkish Trophies" brand cigarette coupons... which explains why these premiums are so scarce in today's market.

The offered entry—with its bright and compelling center illustration (which easily boasts an incredible NM appearance)—speaks volumes about the care with which it has been preserved over the past 100+ years. Standard edge fraying, expected for this issue, can be seen along the top edge, and several strands of silk are missing at the bottom edge. Two minor horizontal bends and a minor amount of edge toning pose no distraction. It should be noted that the horizontal bends could most likely be improved with ironing. As a point of value reference, Legendary Auctions sold a stunning example of this subject for nearly $18,000 in our February 2013 auction. Here's a visually engaging high grade collectible, and a centerpiece collectible for any Ty Cobb collector.
