"Everyone knows I'm a huge Dave Winfield fan," Jeter said after the Yankees' come-from-behind win on April 19, 2012. "Your name next to his in anything you do is...pretty special. I've gotten to know Dave throughout the years and I respect him as a player and more so as a person. I'm happy to be tied with him."
Captain Clutch's second-inning RBI single tied the game up at 4-4 and tied him with his childhood hero for 18th place on the all-time hits list. In a statement released by the Yankees, Winfield said, "I always enjoy watching Derek Jeter play because he is a model of consistency both in the field and at the plate. I finished my career with 3,110 hits, and I only have admiration and respect for Derek. I hope that he pauses for a moment to admire the view with me, and then keeps on going. This is just one more achievement in an incredible career."
Presented here is the pinstriped jersey that was on Jeter's back when he joined Winny in the record books. Iron-clad provenance comes in the form of: 1) A Steiner LOA and label documenting its game usage on April 19, 2012; 2) An MLB label verifying the signature's authenticity; and 3) The actual MLB.com footage (shown on our website) in which numerous still images offer a clear "photo match" of the identical pinstriping pattern. The button-down garment features the Yankees' interlocking "NY" logo on the left chest in navy tackle twill, and Jeter's number "2" sewn on the back in like fashion. A Majestic Athletic Authentic Collection main label with size 48 and year "2012" flap tags appears on the left front tail. A Steiner label and an MLB Authentication label have been adhered to the main label. A New York Yankees barcode sticker has been adhered to the jersey just below the main label. Inside the left side seam is a white flap tag noting fabric detail, laundry instructions and size. Jeter has signed the back number in silver marker ("8"). A Steiner label has been adhered to the back number. Light even wear. LOA from JSA. LOA from Legendary Auctions.
